March 4th was the City’s actual birthday. We marked it by inviting the Lieutenant Governor, Stephen Point to Duncan to be the first person to hoist our new flag up the flag pole.
What an unbelievably wonderful day it was! The rain held off, the sun even peeked out every once in a while. The Lieutenant governor was gracious and wonderful as always. Our guest of Honour, Shirley Garriock, the granddaughter of William Chalmers Duncan was delighted to be accompanied by Inspector Kevin Hewco of the RCMP. At least 600 people crowded into Kenneth Street.
The helicopter fly-past was spectacular. He missed the clock tower, tilted sideways and one of the crew waved to us out the open door.
The flag raising went off without a hitch and when it was all over, we all got to share birthday cake and refreshments. Here are a few photos of the day, there will be more soon.
